Florida Scholarship Data

Right now, during the 2023-24 school year, nearly 360,000 students are enrolled in education choice scholarships administered by Step Up For Students, which publishes this blog.

This total includes:

  • More than 126,000 students enrolled in private schools using Florida Tax Credit Scholarships
  • More than 130,000 students enrolled in private schools using publicly funded Educational Options scholarships
  • More than 84,000 students awarded flexible scholarships for students with Unique Abilities
  • Approximately 20,000 students signed up for Personalized Education Programs, which allow them to use scholarships for a flexible array of different education-related products and services of their choice

These numbers underscore the steady growth of education choice scholarship programs in Florida.

Scholarship programs have grown in tandem with the proliferation of charter schools, magnet schools, career academies and open enrollment policies that allow students to attend district schools outside their assigned zone, as well as the increase in students who participate in home education.

Together, these and other options help form the new definition of public education.
